Farm Above the Clouds

"The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and foster its renewal is our only hope." -Wendell Berry

Why we're building this

Four score and several seasons ago (well, not that long ago) we collected our kids, dogs and wits and ran screaming from the urban environs that we had been rooted in for so long. We found ourselves on the edge of a forest, overlooking the coastal range, finally able to start delving into a way of daily living that had called to us for so long.

Truth be told, while our lives were unfolding, in addition to all the things that bound us to the metropolitan area we knew, large parts of our souls were actually rooted elsewhere; some good things take time, and finding and adopting a beloved rural space was one of them.

In addition to the vagaries of software, and the many other interests that keep food on the table and shoes on the kids' feet, we are finally becoming rooted in the real things that sustain us. More time to talk to the trees, and listen to what the lives around us are saying, not just what we humans dictate out into the universe.

We now raise heirloom sheep, chickens, and are owned and operated (if you were to ask them) by a wonderfully grumpy horse, far too many cats, and an everpresent guard alpaca named Pippin. Find our eggs at local farmer's markets and buying clubs; join us on the web, and see what we're up to; and most days, you can find us up on the hillside learning the languages that our new companions are teaching us. Not everyone can say they've learned to whine in Alpaca. :) Come see what our latest lessons are.
